Discomforts and pains are a typical day in an IVF cycle. I loved it when I could find little joys and comforts along the way! I went through three rounds, and every round was different. Each round, I hurdled through various mental, physical, and emotional pains and discomforts, which made it more challenging and demanding on my mind and body. Luckily, I found my favorite items with each round that helped with some of those discomforts and pains.
I hope the items below will bring you joy and comfort on your journey.
1. Medicine cart
My favorite item is my Medicine Cart. I used it the whole time throughout my IVF journey. It held all my medication and secured a safe place for all the documents I needed for appointments. It helped keep me organized and the area clean for all my medication and injections!
Some of the items I kept in my medicine cart were:
- Ever Ready First Aid Sharps Container
- Alcohol Prep Pads
- Medline 4 x 4 inch Gauze Pads
- Pineapple Shaped Self Adhesive Bandages – Little joys
- Cart to hold supplies – I prefer space to spread everything out and this cart was perfect!
- Utility Cart – I also have this one at home, and it would work just as well!
2. Socks
This item is prominent in the IVF community, and I am here to say I loved wearing my socks for Egg retrieval and Transfer day! It was exciting putting them on before each procedure! I am the type of person who even goes in for an ultrasound and keeps my socks on. It makes me feel less naked!
After my transfer, a fertility Nurse told me to keep my feet nice and warm because warm feet equaled a warm uterus!
3. Heating pad and Ice packs
I used my heating pad and ice packs all the time through IVF. They help with all the discomforts that come with retrievals, transfers, and injections! If you are debating getting a heating pad, I highly suggest it! It feels so good after retrieval day when you’re so bloated and uncomfortable!
Ice packs are another item I would recommend, too! I loved using them before injections to get a little numb before injecting!
4. Traveling Medicine Case
There were times in between my retrieval and transfer days when I wasn’t able to be home when my medication was due. It made me nervous when we couldn’t be in a routine, and I had to do injections in the car. We didn’t plan any traveling while going through IVF cycles, but we did have different obligations we had to be at, and I had to figure out how to keep my stuff cold and clean while not in the fridge. I found a traveling case I could keep in a cooler to keep the medication cold!
- Shots Case – little joys
- MyVitro The Travel Case – The cool thing about this travel case is it opens up on your lap for easy needle prep! To keep it cool, you would need to put it into a cooler!
- Mini cooler Travel case – This case comes with an ice pack and is great for traveling!
5. Joggers!
I preferred wearing joggers to my egg retrieval day because they’re so easy to take off and put on! The bloat is real after egg retrieval, and all you want to wear is loose pants and change into comfy pajamas when you get home! The best part is the joggers are loose enough for bloating, especially when sitting in the car!
During the two-week wait, I lived in lounge sets to stay comfortable!
6. Prep Containers
Prep containers are a must throughout IVF! The last thing I wanted to think about was what I was going to have for dinner while going through an IVF cycle. My wonderful husband would cook and prep my food for each week so I could still eat very healthy and not have to stress about the nutrients I needed for my body through each round.
These are the containers I used:
– 3 compartment prep containers
7. Journal
I used my journals all the time! I like to call my prayer journal my “open communication journal.” My open communication journal was my morning journal, and I would let out every fear and emotion to the Lord. It helped me cast all my worries onto him!
In my IVF journey book, I documented each round I underwent! Going through IVF, the last thing I wanted to do was document the journey, but looking back now, I am so glad I did!
Take all the videos and pictures! It was a journey that was so tough but so rewarding!
What are your must haves during an IVF round?
For my next round I am looking into The Essential IVF Support Kit from MyVitro – This kit includes a Fertility Caddy, Shot Station, Fridge Box, Travel Case and 2 Hot + Cold Packs. It’s a little pricey but in my opinion worth the little joys to this stressful journey!
I thank God for giving me an outlet to express my journey. It was hard. It was challenging. But I now get to pray and help women in their journey to motherhood and that in itself is worth everything to me. Just to bring a little light to a road of uncertainty.
I would love to pray for you! I do not post publicly and I pray over very request I receive weekly! Click here to submit your prayer request!
